A 30-year-old woman has been arrested after her male companion fled, leaving her alone in a vehicle with a rifle allegedly hidden inside it.
She was held on Monday by officers of the Central Division Gang Unit during an intelligence-led operation in Mamoral.
During the exercise, officers saw a man and a woman inside a white Kia K2700 truck. As police approached, the man got out of the vehicle and ran off.
Officers then spoke with the woman and told her about the intelligence they received and their authority to search the vehicle.
However, due to poor lighting and safety concerns, they took the vehicle to the Chaguanas Police Station, where a detailed search was conducted in her presence.
Police say the rifle, fitted with a folding metal stock, and a magazine containing 19 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition were found hidden behind the driver’s seat.
The woman, who is from Mamoral Main Road, was arrested for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
