The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago has recognised outstanding achievements in workplace health, safety, and environmental practices.
At its 15th Annual HSE Awards held on Monday, several companies were honoured for raising the bar in safety and sustainability.
Head Judge at Sygma Environment, Gerard Rajkumar, noted that the award scheme ensured every company walked away a winner.
“Over the years, the plethora of entrants underscores the importance of HSE as an issue that impacts every company, organisation, entity, either private or government, and ultimately each citizen. With each year, the awards not only recognise achievements in the industry but move incrementally closer to introducing the culture of HSE into the community.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dr. Lackram Bodoe praised AMCHAM T&T’s efforts to elevate HSE standards across all sectors. He described the event as a powerful reminder of the importance of sharing best practices and driving continuous improvement.
“This evening as we honour those who have made health, safety and environmental stewardship their mission, we reaffirm a shared commitment. A commitment to building workplaces where safety is embedded in culture, where innovation drives prevention, and where every individual returns home healthier and stronger than they arrived.”
Dr. Bodoe also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing health and safety across all sectors through inter-ministerial collaboration, legislative support, and fostering a culture of prevention.
“We are actively working to modernise Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) frameworks, an effort which is being led by the Ministry of Labour, to better reflect emerging workplace risks and align with global best practices.”
Yara Trinidad and Tobago claimed both the Excellence in HSE Award in Energy and the Award for Operational Resilience. The National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago won the Outstanding OSH and Environment Project in the Large category, while La Brea Industrial Development Company Limited took the Small category. The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago emerged as the winner in the Services Large category.
