On Friday, August 22nd, 2025, representatives from the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), and the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago convened to advance discussions on the deployment of police officers to selected schools for the upcoming September school term.
The MOE delegation was led by Ms. Simone Williams, Permanent Secretary (Ag), and included Dr. Peter Smith, Chief Education Officer, along with representatives from the School Supervision Division, Student Support Services Division (SSSD), Health, Safety and Security Services Unit (HSSSU), Educational Planning Division (EPD), and Corporate Communications.
The TTPS was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Junior Benjamin, and six senior officers. This meeting followed a similar session held on Thursday, underscoring the continued collaboration among key stakeholders.
These discussions are part of a wider initiative stemming from a high-level meeting on August 14th, 2025, held at Education Towers, which included Dr. the Hon. Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education; the Hon. Roger Alecxander, Minister of Homeland Security; and Mr. Allister Guevarro, Commissioner of Police.
The initiative seeks to strengthen school safety by placing police officers in targeted schools to support discipline, deter violence, and promote a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
