NP Urges Caution With LPG Cylinders Following Recent Fatalities

The National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) is reminding the public of safety procedures to follow when handling LPG tanks.

The advisory comes following reports of the death of Ria George, days after an alleged incident involving a 20-pound LPG cylinder.

NP is advising both residential and business customers to perform a ‘soapy water test’ at the connections between the regulator and the valve, the regulator and the hose, and the hose and the stove, prior to its use.

It also says that if a gas leak is suspected, customers should immediately disconnect the cylinder and remove it to a safe and secure location away from the premises.

Customers are also advised to report any issues or concerns related to LPG cylinders to the relevant distributor or retailer from whom the cylinder was purchased.

In June, Raquel Babwah of Claxton Bay died five days after she suffered burns in a suspected cooking gas tank explosion, and in April, teenager Naomi Mille of Lopinot died after a gas tank reportedly exploded while she was cooking.
