Business Leaders, Police Strengthen Security Partnerships At Cunupia Forum

Discussions on the Eagle Eye Project, business security initiatives, local policing efforts and community partnerships took centre stage as business leaders, law enforcement officials and stakeholders gathered for the Cunupia Business Chamber’s Regional Security Stakeholder Meeting and Forum.

Speaking at a Security Stakeholder Meeting and Forum in Cunupia, Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin said, building trust between communities and the police remains one of the most effective tools in fighting crime.

“I firmly believe that effective policing begins with trust. When communities trust their police people share information, problems are solved more quickly and criminals find it much harder to operate.”

She encouraged business owners to strengthen their own security measures, noting that crime prevention begins with shared responsibility and proactive planning.

“Security is most effective when it is shared. Good lighting, CCTV system, employee awareness and timely reporting all contributes to preventing crime before it happens.”

DCP Martin stressed that public support continues to play a critical role in successful policing.

“To our community, crime cannot be fought by police service alone, every successful arrest, every illegal firearm seized and every criminal network disrupted often begins with information from someone in the community who decided to speak up and that is why today’s conversation is so important.”

Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working alongside communities and the police, while expressing appreciation for officers serving on the frontlines.

“We have been working in the community and we have been working with the police, so today I express, I publicly express our sincerest appreciation to every officer who continues to put on that uniform each day knowing that they may not return home to their own families at times. Y’all deserve our respect and you deserve our support and you also deserve the resources necessary to keep our communities safe.”

The forum gave members of the business community and residents of Cunupia an opportunity to engage directly with law enforcement, share concerns and explore collaborative approaches to creating safer communities and a more secure business environment.
