Bulk Waste Causing Garbage Collection Challenges At Maloney HDC

Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Alexander is appealing to residents of the Maloney HDC Development to separate their bulk waste from regular garbage to make it easier for the contractor to remove the waste.

The Minister addressed the issue during a visit to the Building 10 area after a social media post complained about a garbage pile-up.

He noted that bulk waste, such as bed frames, washing machines and other items, being mixed with domestic garbage has created a challenge for contractors tasked with removing waste from the Maloney HDC Development.

“These residents are not separating bulk waste from normal garbage. That is causing a challenge for the garbage contractor. That is something we need to sort out. We are hoping that when the bin goes in and the signs go up, that people obey the signs and separate what is bulk waste, beds and washing machines and fridges and those things, from normal bags of garbage.”

The Minister also identified another issue: people from outside the development are entering the compound to dump garbage.

“Another concern is the people from outside bringing their bulk waste and their garbage and dumping it here because they know they could. That is causing a challenge as well because sometimes it exceeds what the contractor is expecting to meet when he gets here because a two-day cycle shouldn’t have that much garbage.”

Providing an update on the replacement of the previous metal bins with concrete receptacles, Minister Alexander said two concrete bins have been mounted near Buildings 18 and 19.

He added that four are in varying stages of construction due to unpredictable weather. However, he assured residents that work will begin on the nine remaining bins from Tuesday, September 29th, with the aim of completing the structures.
