Group Wants Answers On Mosquito Creek Road Collapse

South Oropouche Riverine Flood Action Group President Edward Moodie is once again calling on authorities to address the issues surrounding the collapsed Mosquito Creek Highway as his group prepares to proceed with legal action against the State.

Mr. Moodie and representatives of several affected groups gathered along the banks to express their concern over their dwindling livelihoods and their dissatisfaction with the pace of investigation promised by the Environmental Management Authority in the matter. He also noted that the EMA’s Coastal Unit Division should have been deployed.

Attorney At Law Richard Jagessar, acting on behalf of the group, stated that a Freedom of Information Act request has been drafted to the Ministry of Works and Transport and NIDCO to ascertain information in the public’s interest.

Mr. Moodie stated that fishermen are especially affected by higher fuel costs and lower catch as the work has affected the ecosystem and mangroves necessary for continuous fish production.
