Health Fair Draws Strong Turnout Despite Inclement Weather

Despite the inclement weather, Tunapuna residents showed up to take charge of their health at an annual health fair hosted by MP Roger Alexander.

Constituents of Tunapuna braved the rain on Saturday to partake in the annual health fair hosted by their Member of Parliament, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, at his constituency office in Tunapuna.

Glucose testing, eye testing, general health screening, nutritional guidance, dental treatment options and blood pressure monitoring were among the many services offered.

Minister Alexander says the effort is to ensure the well-being of constituents.

“What we try to do we try to incorporate everything, so when somebody leaves here it is like you going by a doctor, and he sends you to a specialist, and then he sends you for counselling and therapy at the same time, we have everything here, there’s a collection of persons here, there are dietitians here, and a number of persons, so that’s what we try to do in order to achieve the goal.”

He says he’s hopeful that the knowledge obtained will be utilised for lifestyle changes and so persons can seek further medical intervention.

“I’m hoping that all the persons here today they would leave here with a better understanding of their health, and also I’m hoping to God, that no one is identified today as having such a major issue that it might impact for the rest of their life, but if it does I’m hoping that it’s an early detection, so something can happen and it can change.”

In keeping with the Government’s mandate of ensuring a healthier society, Minister Alexander welcomed people from neighbouring constituencies who showed up to the health fair, stressing that they too will be given the necessary medical assistance.
