Trinidad and Tobago’s partnership with the United States continues to strengthen across areas including security, healthcare, technology and investment.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the remarks while addressing an Independence Day Reception hosted by the United States Embassy to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
She highlighted what she described as an enduring relationship between the two countries, while pointing to recent areas of cooperation.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says Trinidad and Tobago and the United States share a partnership built on cooperation, mutual interests and a common vision for development.
Speaking at the U.S. Embassy’s Independence Day Reception marking America’s 250th anniversary, the Prime Minister welcomed the continued strengthening of ties between both nations.
“We wish you every success during your tenure, and we’re especially pleased to welcome you at a time when our countries continue to strenghten an already enduring friendship.”
The Prime Minister said the relationship has expanded beyond diplomacy, pointing to cooperation in security, healthcare and technology.
She highlighted joint initiatives including training exercises with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, law enforcement cooperation and support to strengthen national healthcare infrastructure.
“Our endorsement of this initiative underscores Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to bolstering security efforts and working with our regional and international allies to ensure a safter, more stable hemisphere. Beyond security, the spirit of cooperation is equally evident in tangible, livesaving ways.”
The Prime Minister also noted the role of the United States in supporting Trinidad and Tobago’s advancement in areas such as cybersecurity and international affairs.
She said the partnership continues to evolve to meet the challenges of a changing world.
“However, throughout his journey, the U.S. has demonstrated the strength of a nation rooted in its people and in their capactity to adopt, persevere, and shape their future. That same spirit of resilience and shared purpose underscores the enduring partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar also announced that earlier in the day, agreements were signed with three United States companies for investment opportunities in Trinidad and Tobago.
These include plans for data centres and support for the rebuilding of the country’s steel industry.
She said as the United States enters its next 250 years, Trinidad and Tobago remains committed to being a partner in strengthening regional and global cooperation.
The reception formed part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America.
