Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Hansen Narinesingh, has highlighted the importance of collaboration in preparing citizens for an evolving tourism sector and ensuring that training aligns with both local and international industry demands.
Speaking at the launch of MIC Institute of Technology’s ‘Inside the Industry: Tourism Edition’, he underscored the importance of stronger collaboration among government, industry, and educational institutions to prepare a workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the tourism sector.
He said the initiative will provide students with direct exposure to industry expertise, emerging trends, and practical skills, while creating pathways to a diverse range of careers and entrepreneurial opportunities within tourism.
“By strengthening the alignment between skills, development, and labour market needs, initiatives such as this are helping to build an adaptable, capable, and globally competitive workforce that will contribute to Trinidad and Tobago’s long-term social and economic development.”
He also outlined several businesses that have exemplified this model in driving economic growth.
“The participation of respected local and international organisations, including Courtyard Marriott Hotel, United Hospitality Management, and the Palms Dubai, demonstrates a shared commitment to developing talent, expanding opportunities, and preparing a workforce that meets both national and global industry standards.”
Businesses were encouraged to continue partnering with training institutions to expand opportunities for hospitality students, while urging young people to view tourism as a dynamic profession with significant potential for career growth and entrepreneurship.
