Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference

– Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, provided a clinical update on the status of COVID-19. Dr. Parasram stated that to date, 532,484 persons have received one dose of a 2 dose vaccine regime, making up 38% of the population. He went on to say that there are 420, 686 persons with a completed vaccination regime, making up 30% of the population.

– The Chief Medical Officer shared the current statistics pertaining to active COVID-19 cases in T&T by county, noting the increase in cases observed in Tobago. The breakdown is as follows:

Tobago : 12.9%

Victoria : 28%

St Patrick : 11.6%

St George West : 5.9%

St George Central : 10%

St George East : 8.6%

St David/St Andrew : 6%

Caroni : 15.6%

Nariva/Mayaro : 1.4%

– Dr. Parasram also provided the co-morbidity breakdown for COVID-19 patients and indicated that Diabetes makes up 29.7% and Hypertension makes up 34.2% of the co-morbidities observed, still remaining the most prevalent of the group.
