The North-West Regional Health Authority has been served with its third pre-action protocol letter after seven babies died earlier this month as a result of bacterial outbreaks at the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The letter was sent by Freedom Law Chambers headed by Anand Ramlogan, on behalf of mother Daynelle Samaroo. Reports state that Samaroo gave birth to her daughter on March 26th, who at the time was in a healthy condition. However, days later on April 5th the child died while at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in her mother’s arms. It was only then that the parents were informed of the bacterial outbreak that claimed the lives of six other babies. The deaths took place between April 4th and April 7th.
