Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said Government had to cut the fuel subsidy or this country would have been in a dire economic situation.
During Tuesday evening’s Conversation With The Prime Minister, Dr. Rowley explained his Government’s decision. He noted that only in the first five years, from 1997 to 2001, was there enough money in the Heritage and Stabilisation Fund to cover the fuel subsidy. However from 2002 onward, Government had to add money to cover the fuel subsidy. Dr. Rowley added that no other nation in the Caribbean has a fuel subsidy.
