Another package containing Prohibited Articles was intercepted at the Port of Spain Prison.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Officers attached to the Port of Spain Prison, acting on information received, successfully intercepted and confiscated another package which had been thrown over the prison’s perimeter wall.
The package contained the following prohibited articles:
- Fifty (50) packs of RAW wrapping paper;
- Twenty-five (25) packs of BAMBU wrapping paper;
- Ten (10) packs of L&M cigarettes;
- Twenty-eight (28) cigarette lighters.
Commissioner of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Elvin Scanterbury, commended the Officers involved for their vigilance and swift action in intercepting the package. The Commissioner urged Prisons Officers to continue their hard work and to maintain the highest level of vigilance in the execution of their duties.
The Commissioner further noted that the continued attempts by persons in society to circumvent established prison security measures and introduce prohibited articles into correctional institutions remain a serious concern. He reiterated that the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service will continue to employ appropriate security measures and intelligence-driven strategies to detect, deter and prevent such attempts.
Investigations are continuing in collaboration with external law enforcement agencies.
