PTSC Introduces Cashless Ticketing Project

A modern digital ticketing solution has been launched for the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC), making it more convenient and accessible for commuters to purchase and use bus tickets.

The pilot phase of the project was rolled out on Thursday during a ceremony hosted by the National Payment and Innovation Company of Trinidad and Tobago.

Commuters who use the Deluxe Coach Service between Port of Spain and San Fernando will will now experience an easier way to purchase and use their bus tickets.

On Thursday, the National Payment and Innovation Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NPICTT) announced the launch of a modern digital ticketing platform for the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC), aimed at improving efficiency while reducing the reliance on cash.

The system allows customers to purchase tickets online and via card payments at Point-of-Sale terminals located at PTSC depots and authorised agents, while still maintaining multiple access points for commuters.

NPICTT says the pilot phase will enable real-time testing and allow for customer feedback ahead of a wider national roll-out.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Eli Zakour said the launch represents a significant step in the modernisation of public transportation in Trinidad and Tobago.

“It reflects our commitment to delivering services that are more efficient, more accessible, and more convenient to the travelling public. For many years, citizens have called for faster, simpler, and more reliable ways to access transportation services. Today, we are proud to deliver this through the partnership with NPICTT.”

Minister Zakour explained that the new system introduces a secure, user-friendly payment platform that will transform how commuters purchase and use bus tickets.

“Through this platform, commuters will now be able to purchase tickets using their debit cards. Each ticket, QR code-based, allowing the value to decrease with each trip taken. This means greater convenience, less waste, and easier management for our passengers.”

Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development, Dr. Kennedy Swaratsingh said the initiative aligns with the Government’s broader push to digitise public services and transition away from paper-based and cash-dependent systems.

“The system integrates with PTSC’s emerging digital ecosystem, real-time tracking and mobile platforms, allowing users to buy and manage tickets remotely, eliminating the need for physical tickets, queues and improving overall commuter experience and convenience.”

Minister Swaratsingh added that this project represents just the beginning of several technology-driven initiatives as the Government continues to modernise public services.
