In recognition of the achievements and addressing the stigma placed on some of the nation’s schools, the Ministry of Education presented prizes to twenty students from various schools across the country.
The Re-engaging For Success Project, that is geared towards the promotion and celebration of students excelling in different aspects of their studies, was hosted by the Ministry of Education on Friday.
One student, Justin Pamphille of Brazil Secondary, expressed pride in receiving his prize.
“It means a lot to know that I have been doing the right thing and I hope my mom is proud of me.”
Principal of the Chaguanas South Secondary School, Romeeda Ali, said this programme has been instrumental in shaping the progress of students.
“This initiative has been a catalyst for positive change in our school community. It has provided us with a roadmap for school improvement and success, and we have seen so many tangibles out of this programme.”
Congratulating the students on their achievements, Line Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly spoke on why it is crucial to focus on schools with stigma and changing the narrative through the portrayal of their success in this way.
She added that instilling good values in children is critical in shaping the outcome of their lives.
“It is important that they learn to be moral and ethical because something may not be against the law, but it might be against the law of humanity, against the law of kindness, and we are losing that.”
The remediation project not only highlighted the success of students but also recognised the contribution of School Principals and teachers who continue to nurture the ideal citizens of tomorrow.
