The public is advised that the sale of State Game Licences (SGLs) for the 2026–2027 Hunting Season will commence on Monday 21st September, 2026. The Hunting Season in Trinidad and Tobago will officially run from October 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.
During the month of March 2027, the listed game species will be removed from the schedule and hunting will be prohibited.
Each State Game Licence costs TT$100.00 per game species, with a maximum of three (3) State Game Licences per hunter.
Hunters are reminded to familiarise themselves with the Conservation of Wild Life Act (COWA), Chapter 67:01, and to ensure that all hunting activities are conducted in accordance with the law. State Game Licences permit holders to hunt the game species specified on their respective licences on State Lands and Forest Reserves.
Hunters are also reminded of the following:
• The hunting and/or possession of Iguana (Iguana iguana) is prohibited during the months of January, February and March. Hunting of iguana ends on December 31, 2026.
The fine for hunting and/or possession of iguana during the prohibited period is TT$10,000.00.
• Hunting of lizards is not permitted within the municipal boundaries of the City of Port of Spain, in accordance with Legal Notice No. 280 of 2019 and Regulations 6(1)(c) and 7(1A).
• Persons have until March 31, 2027 to dispose of the carcasses of game animals, or any part thereof, from their property and/or possession. Carcasses of game animals that are iguanas, or any part thereof, must be disposed of on or before midnight on December 31, 2026.
Holders of State Game Licences purchased for the 2026–2027 Hunting Season must correctly complete and submit the Mandatory Data Return Forms on or before May 31, 2027. Failure to comply may result, on summary conviction, in a fine of TT$2,500.00 per data form.
First-time hunters are required to present:
• One form of valid government-issued identification, namely a National Identification Card, Driver’s Permit or Passport.
• A recent utility bill, not older than three (3) months, for verification of address. Where the utility bill is in another person’s name, the necessary authorisation letter must also be provided.
State Game Licences can be obtained at the following Forestry Division Offices in Trinidad and the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development sales centres, as directed, in Tobago. Licences are available Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., except on public holidays and weekends.
