The Minister of National Security says promotions, once given, cannot be taken away whimsically citing complex legal issues.
This, in relation to the erroneous promotion of 29 police officers to the rank of Corporal due to a ‘computer glitch.’
Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, while responding to Oral Questions posed to him in the Upper House by Opposition Senator Wade Mark, explained that the officers who were supposed to be promoted have been promoted.
Some of the 29 officers have initiated legal proceedings to prevent their promotions from being revoked. The Minister said an oral report was given by the Commissioner of Police on the matter.
Nearly 900 officers were promoted in a mass exercise in September 2023. After the promotions, several officers requested their overall marks which revealed the discrepancies.
