TTPS Ramps Up Security For Point Fortin Borough Day Celebrations

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is ramping up security for this weekend’s Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations.

At a TTPS Media Briefing on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Remy and Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Joel Forbes promised a safe and well-managed event.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Remy says the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has adopted a coordinated multi-agency approach to ensure that all patrons can enjoy Point Fortin Borough Day festivities this weekend in a safe, secure and well-managed environment.

“This year’s operational plan includes increased police visibility, strategic deployments across key event locations, traffic management measures, and the integration of intelligence-led policing to proactively address any potential threats or disruptions. Our officers will be supported by specialised units to ensure a rapid and effective response capability throughout the celebrations.”

ACP Remy said while the TTPS is fully prepared to maintain law and order, public safety is a shared responsibility.

“We therefore urge all members of the public to exercise good judgement, comply with the law, and demonstrate respect for others whilst enjoying the festivities. Simple actions such as obeying traffic regulations, avoiding excessive alcohol consumption, and cooperating with officers on duty can significantly contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.”

Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police Joel Forbes said traffic restrictions will be implemented from 2 am on Saturday to ensure the smooth facilitation of evacuations should the need arise.

ASP Forbes also warned that illegally parked vehicles will be towed and ticketed.

“And they will take the form of vehicle restrictions in Guapo, Captiveville, Main Road between Bryce Road and Richardson Street, Tanner Street between Bryce Road and Point Fortin Main Road, Point 14 Main Road between Reed Road and Tanner Street, Tishay Main Road between Handel Street and Frisco Roundabout, and Bryce Road between Tanner Street and Guapo-Captiveville Road, Point Fortin.”

Glass bottles are also prohibited.

“Now, it is a soft type of enforcement, but the police will be enforcing it. In that, when I say soft, I mean that persons will be permitted, if you are found with a bottle, you can put the alcoholic beverage into a plastic bottle, and then we, the police, will keep possession of that bottle and dispose of it. Persons that find themselves afoul and refuse to, the law does cater for that.”

ASP Forbes assured that the TTPS is working closely with event organisers, vendors, and transport providers to ensure compliance and smooth operations throughout the celebrations.
