Member of Parliament for Couva South, Barry Padarath, used his Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Saturday to express gratitude to High Commissioner of India to T&T, Dr. Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit, for his contributions to the country during his tenure, as the diplomat prepares to take up a new posting in Bahrain later this month.
The event, hosted at the Couva South Multi-Purpose Hall, is expected to have been one of Dr. Rajpurohit’s final official engagements in T&T before his departure.
MP Padarath thanked Dr. Rajpurohit for strengthening ties between India and T&T and highlighted several initiatives supported through that partnership.
“I join with all my colleagues and all constituents in saying thank you. Thank you for what you’ve been able to share with us. A stone’s throw away we’ve been able to open a packaging facility for agriculture. Couple weeks ago we got the laptops from India. You shared with the Prime Minister when you met a few days ago when you met with here, we will get the dialysis machines, the sea ambulances and those are the gifts that Prime Minister Modi brought with him.”
Reflecting on his three years in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Rajpurohit said the experience had left a lasting impact on both him and his family.
“I see a change in me, my family and when I see that with great … and emotions that all of you here have been following, these occasions and imparting these values through the generations, this is very, very important. I have said numerous occasions, these things. But this is something which is incredible about this society, and not just about the Indian society but about the others also.”
MP Padarath highlighted plans for the continuation of Ganesh Chaturthi observances in the constituency over the coming days, noting that Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will continue for ten days and ten nights.
