Mayaro residents are set to benefit from a series of water improvement projects as the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) steps up efforts to deliver reliable pipe-borne water to underserved communities.
On Saturday, Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Nicholas Morris, led a high-level delegation through several areas in his constituency where residents have faced long-standing water challenges.
Joining him were Chairman of the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation, Raymond Cozier; Acting Chief Executive Officer of WASA, Jeevan Joseph; WASA’s Chairman, Roshan Babwah; and other members of the Authority’s Executive Evolution Team.
Mr. Vishnu Timal, a resident of La Salle Road, explained his family’s water situation, including their lack of access to a pipe-borne supply.
“We never had that in we life. I am 67 years right now and since I born, they say my grandfather and them dig this well. Since I born this well here.”
Mr. Timal said the cost of using private trucks to fill containers is exorbitant. As a result, neighbours rely on each other to fetch water from the nearby village.
He added that access to pipe-borne water would be life-changing, not just for his household but for the entire community.
“I will be so happy, everybody in this village would feel like they in heaven. We need water inside of here very bad, more than anything else. We have current, we have telephone but you know they thief out wire, tree fall down, but what we really need here is water. We would be the happiest people in Trinidad if we get water inside of here, because is too much of trouble in we life time, too much, too much.”
