The Ministry of Education says it will not allow the proud history of St. George’s College to be marred and vowed to continue to monitor the flooding at the school very closely.
The Ministry said the flooding incident, caused by high levels of run off after torrential rains at St. George’s College on Tuesday, was an isolated incident. The Ministry also noted that the flooding had no connection to the extensive repair work done on the school’s roof and ceiling.
Water rose in the Barataria-based Secondary School’s courtyard and corridors during the height of the rain, and subsequently ran off. The Ministry said the attempts to draw a connection between the repair work and flooding are linked to the ongoing agenda to resist the return of the school to Barataria.
The 70 year old school’s rehabilitation was divided into two phases. Phase 2 is currently progressing. The second Phase will cost $1.6 million.
