The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) categorically rejects the false, misleading,
and alarmist claims circulating on social media regarding oxygen systems at the Mt. Hope
Women’s Hospital NICU.
At approximately 1:58 p.m., a temporary low-voltage issue affected oxygen line pressure within
the system and triggered an alarm. NCRHA Engineering and Maintenance teams, alongside the
external supplier, were swiftly on hand to rectify the issue, while the standby reserve oxygen
supply was promptly activated as part of established contingency measures to maintain the
required oxygen flow and pressure to the unit in the interim.
At no time were patients without oxygen or placed at risk.
All ventilated patients continued to receive the requisite medical support and care without
interruption. The technical issue was promptly stabilized, continuously monitored and
appropriately managed by clinical, engineering and supplier personnel in accordance with
established operational and patient safety protocols.
The NCRHA is deeply concerned by the TTNNA’s decision to disseminate unverified, sensational
and alarmist statements to the public before making any attempt to verify the accuracy of the
information with the authority. Such conduct is irresponsible, wholly contrary to the standards
expected of a representative body within the healthcare sector, and has the real potential to
undermine public confidence in the healthcare system, cause unnecessary distress to vulnerable
parents and families, and interfere with the orderly delivery of healthcare services
The NCRHA reserves all legal rights and remedies available to it in respect of the dissemination of
false, defamatory and injurious statements capable of damaging the reputation and integrity of
The authority, its leadership, healthcare professionals and operational staff. The Authority will not
hesitate to take such action as may be necessary to prevent the continued publication of
Misinformation intended to create public alarm and distrust.
The NCRHA remains committed to transparency, patient safety and the uninterrupted delivery of
healthcare services. The Authority reassures the public that all patient care services remain fully
operational and that the oxygen supply systems continue to be closely monitored by both internal
technical teams and the external supplier to ensure ongoing safety and reliability.
The Authority also commends the swift and professional response of the clinical, engineering and
operational teams who acted immediately and effectively to manage the temporary technical
issue and ensure uninterrupted patient care
