A 23-year-old male police officer will appear in court to answer the charge of misbehaviour in public office, as a missing firearm was recovered.
Police said that a TTPS firearm and ammunition were discovered missing following internal checks at the Mayaro Police Station on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026.
An investigation led to the recovery of the missing firearm, magazine and ammunition. The suspect, of Seaview Lane, Mayaro, who has nine months’ service, was subsequently detained.
Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro noted, “Any breach of trust, especially involving the handling of police firearms, will be met with zero tolerance.”
The officer is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 3rd, 2026.
