A report on the review of the local firearm licensing system has been handed over to Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds.
In past weeks there have been calls for an independent review of the system for the application and approval of Firearm User’s Licenses (FULs).
Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has also been criticised publicly for the resulting increase in the issue of firearms. He has since responded to what he called the unfounded perception that an increase in the issuing of firearms could cause a negative impact in the country.
On Tuesday, Acting Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is pleased that a review of the system has been completed, but noted the TTPS is also addressing the matter.
Minister Hinds acknowledged receipt of the report. He said after perusing the report, it will be shared with members of the Cabinet.
