The Tobago House of Assembly is preparing for potential water supply challenges linked to El Niño conditions.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine hosted a meeting on Monday to assess Tobago’s readiness, amid forecasts of reduced rainfall and warmer conditions.
The discussions are focused on proactive measures to protect the island’s water supply and strengthen preparedness in the coming months.
El Niño is predicted to bring hotter temperatures and reduced rainfall, which could put additional pressure on water supplies, particularly if below-normal rainfall persists.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service is forecasting rainfall from June to November to be normal to below normal in Trinidad and below normal in Tobago, which could lead to reduced water availability on the island.
